Visiting Finland was indeed a culture shock. I was in awe at how different things are in Finland as compared to South Africa. Things are clean, well maintained and always on time. The beauty of the region and the people is breathtaking. I have never seen so many white people in all my living days. It was very very weird for me not to see a person of African or Asian or even Indian heritage. I see these people everyday here in SA so it was very strange for me and it was quite upsetting eventually as I missed seeing people of different races everyday.
Finland also had the happiest immigrants in the latest UN Happiness Report, so they hardly are the most xenobhobic people on earth. Yes Finns typically are introvert and need a lot of personal space but these are cultural differences. The differences are there where ever you go, also in India.
How to annoy a Finnish person
May I ask you what do you think about the situation that there are almost only two big grocery chains to buy food in Finland? (A finnish competition situation is not a monopoly but it is a duopoly). The biggest grocery chains are S-ryhmä (S-markets) and Kesko (K-markets), they share 85% of grocery markets in Finland, which is sick! A smaller one is a German Lidl with 10% market share. Lidl should definitely have bigger market share because it would increase competition and decrease food price in Finland.
Going and coming to finland fir the past 19 yearsFirst thingh you get is not at all sauna butSalmon soup /lohi keittoSauna sometimes in the summer in their summer cottage is a mustNobody ver obluge me to jump in to the ice cold waterCompare to danush swedish or NorwegiansFinns are very down to heartThe Scandinavians are very full of themself i did not find thst in tFinnush peopleYes for me as italianThat u like to gesticolate and cant keep my mouth shut sometimes they are a bit to quiete and so much talkativeBut after all of this yearsI really start to sppreciate this very unique finnish qualityWhen they di ralk is not B.sheepThey are very profoundUnlike the americans
Why are you so critical you have no right to finnish culture. You dont have to talk bad about Finland if you dont like it. This the finns culture and you should respect it. But no you just are hurtful to us. You stupid racist mean person. As the scripture says do unto others as you would wnat them do unto you. Imagine if toh saw something so stupid like this about your own country.
Yes specially finnish women are ENVIOUS of foreing women i am european and i see it, envious , jealous and uneducated, they can not even say thanks, sorry or good day , they look like an angry dog all the time and also they are lazy as fuck.
happy-go-lucky attitude towards finland and the finnish people sounds nice but having lived here for some years as a foreigner i can say its not as it seems, not by a long shot. for the most part i find them polite on surface but once i got to know them a bit more it turned out to be nothing but a front to make you believe in their niceness.as people they seem to be mostly calm to the point of boring, slow and uninteresting, yet they wanna know all about you without giving away anything about themselves. feels like kgb interviewing me sometimes. they also dont like most foreigners for no obvious reason and tend to shut them out mentally from locals, and dont ever think you can tell anything bad about another finn or you will find out how fast the information spreads, even meaningless conversation tends to give them something to hold against you just in case. very untrustworthy bunch that can never be a source of confidence, thats why i believe its so difficult to form strong genuine relationships in this country.ive noticed the finns to be envious and two-faced, especially the arrogant swedish speaking finns who despise anybody who doesnt speak their language. people and institutions dont ever admit theyre wrong, they expect you to be the reason things didnt work out for some reason. once you make any decent money the government steps in to take a big chunk of it away and youre expected to pay the so called luxury tax on everything, whether its a can of cola or a small fishing boat. owning and running your own business is basically pointless because unless youre blessed with a high income sector theres no way you will survive being a small business owner here.the native populations favorite past-time hobby is calling the police on anybody for any reason- beware of doing anything suspicious because they will 100% call the cops on you. over the years i havent made one local friend here, yet im open to it but its just not happening naturally and i can only blame the way people interact with each other: home-work/school-home, nothing in between for most of them.nature is nice, place is clean, roads are quite bumpy, people leave you emotionless for the most part and theres nothing to do without a good social network. so if thats what you want then be my guest, otherwise- look elsewhere.
there is no work, discrimination towards foreigners, they look at the names and surnames when giving a job or renting a flat, the backward and racist Finns always blame the foreigner for everything, we came here to abuse their welfare state, they hide their racism and bad education with the excuse of shyness, high index of alcoholism, family violence, false, envious, critical, passive aggressive people, they have a lot of mental problems imbalances, they believe themselves superior, they believe that their country is the best in the world and It is not, inability to socialize as a normal person, lack of empathy, lack of family unity, sad, boring, depressed country, very given to robbing second-hand stores, stealing bicycles, drug problems, now Finland begins to look like some third world countries they start to rob houses and that has been done by the Finns, not foreigners, the state forces you to study to go to the occupation school profession To end up unemployed, because you are a foreigner no one hires you or if not the only options are to clean, cook or clean the toilet finland is for the mediocre average people, if you are ambitious, do not come tho this boring shithole
Deer keds (Lipoptena cervi) are usually found on deer, elk and moose, but occasionally bite humans and domestic mammals. They are those annoying little insects that fly directly on to you in autumn forest, crawl into your hair and drop their wings like they have finally found the moose they were looking for. Deer keds, known as hirvikärpänen (=literally moose fly) in Finnish, look like a mix of spiders and flies. They have long wings but they are flat and elastic. And annoying as hell.
The deer keds emerge from the soil each fall, usually in August or September. They look for a host and after they have landed on one, they immediately shed their wings, happy to stay on that same host for the rest of their lives. Females produce just one egg at a time inside of them, and when the larva is almost fully developed, it drops to the soil and forms a pupa, eventually emerging as a winged adult at the end of August. Both males and females suck blood. The adult deer ked is looking for a host mainly by warmth. Therefore they mistake humans or even dogs as moose sometimes. The main annoyance in humans is the inconvenience and unpleasantness of removing keds from hair and clothes. But they can also bite and cause intense itch. It is still unknown whether they can transmit diseases, but the fact that they easily drop their wings in the host means that their capability to transmit diseases from animals to humans is limited. In Sweden the deer ked has been documented since the 18th century, but in Finland it started spreading in the 60s. It might have been here before, but started spreading more because of large deer and moose populations. Remains of deer ked have even been found in Ötzi, the natural mummy of a man who lived sometime between 3400 and 3100 BCE and who was found in the the Ötztal Alps in 1991. Poor Ötzi, not only was he murdered but he suffered from the deer keds too.Interestingly, the deer keds in Sweden use roe deer as their main host instead of moose. The Swedish deer keds are smaller in size and less annoying to humans.
I have similar experiences, I think they like some people more than others. Heat is definitely one thing they are drawn to, but maybe also size. Larger person seems to attract them more than the kids. For me the best solution has been a net jacket, together with other clothing closed tightly around the wrists and waist. This is not an ad, but I use this kind of jacket: -hirvikarpastakki. It helps for a while. Sometimes they still manage to get inside the jacket, and that makes it even worse.
Any person who, with or without intent to communicate but with intent to annoy any other person, causes any telephone or digital pager, not his own, to ring or to otherwise signal, and any person who permits or condones the use of any telephone under his control for such purpose.
Finns are used to a big personal space, and its easy to notice on bus stops. Some host families touch and hug a lot, but maybe your host family doesnt want to break or hurt your personal space by touching. They may show their love by helping or doing something together instead. If someone is speaking very loud in a restaurant or on a train, it may feel annoying and uncomfortable. Finns dont complain, but they may roll their eyes and judge your behavior quietly. If you want to flirt with a Finn, dont stare or go too close so someone too early. Still, we love hugs among close friends and family members.
You don't need to be from The Land of the Midnight Sun, however, to appreciate Finnish Nightmares, a series of funny comics created by Finnish artist Karoliina Korhonen. After all, who doesn't feel at least a tiny bit of social anxiety when standing in an elevator with a stranger? Or what about that awkward moment when you accidentally touch the salesperson while collecting your change? A real horror story for the anti-social Finn. See below for more examples of socially awkward situations that all Scandinavian people and introverts, no matter where they're from, will relate to. 2ff7e9595c
